Grand Opening GIVEAWAY

Well, friends.  The plan is still to open the Sewing by Moonlight Etsy store on my birthday.  That’s ONE WEEK from today!  I do only have a few items to stock at this point, but I figure the point is to start, even if I start small.  Right?

My products will be primarily bags and baby items.  I will begin with two bags.

1. Luna: The Essential Tote.

I originally designed this tote as a library bag for my daughter. The straps are short enough that a small child can carry it (if it’s not too full of books) without the bag dragging on the ground.  The straps are attached to a heavyweight lining to support the weight of several books.  I also added a small zippered exterior pocket to store a library card or other essentials.

I then realized that this bag also fits me perfectly as a short strapped tote that tucks under my arm.  It would be great for a project bag or a day bag or a place to stash your research materials for class.  The possibilities are endless, and it’s very versatile in both function and user.

2.  Callisto: The Gathered Clutch.

This is the clutch I use every day.  It is 12 inches long by 6 inches high with a zippered top and an interior zippered pocket.  The idea for the gathered clutch was derived from a tutorial on Noodlehead.  I purchased her pattern so that I would have rights to sell that clutch, but I have never actually opened the pattern file.   I just thought that since the original idea was hers, purchasing the rights was the right thing to do.  The Callisto is larger in size and the interior design is different.  I include a detachable wrist strap, but, by request, I have also made Callisto with a longer strap so the bag can be worn over the shoulder or cross body like a purse.

This Callisto is up for grabs:

To Enter the Giveaway:

1.  Leave me a comment.  Tell me what sorts of bags you would like to see or would be likely to purchase in the Sewing by Moonlight Etsy store.  Some possibilities: totes (large or small, zippered or not), snack bags, small zippered pouches, diaper bags, messenger bags (for children or adults), clutches (perhaps a smaller size or different style).  Are there other types of handmade products that you buy or that you would be likely to buy if they were offered?

Hi Em – I am always on the lookout for large purse/small bags made out of sturdy, stain resistant materials. Must have a zipper top and at least one zippered pocket inside! You do amazing things, and happy early birthday!

Can’t wait to win this :). Posted on fb about a bag I would love to see you make. I can bring you my old worn one to see. Sort of a mini diaper bag that works well as a purse.

The Tote, but in a solid colour..with a zip, the bigger the better. Moreover, since I am short ..the handles shouldn’t reach my thighs 🙂 Rust is one of my favourite colours.

I LOVE your idea of messenger bags, I can only imagine the beautiful colors combinations and designs you will come up with! I also would love to see cross body purse designs, I have one I love that I founding Burlington, VT, simple but perfect for everything I need when headed out on any average day. Very excited for your store 🙂

I like totes & clutches with zips (a bit like your everyday wallet but bigger). I love all sorts of bags but these are the most useful & the ones that I actually get around to making. Congrats on the opening & happy birthday for next week.

I would like to see a medium sized tote, with a zipper top that has a little bit longer handles so it’s easier to carry on your shoulder to use for traveling. I bought one from Lands End, one of their canvas ones, and the straps are short so it’s hard to wear over your shoulder which is annoying. 🙂

Etsy is a fab place to sell. I love being a part of their community. Most sellers are individuals and super-friendly and willing to go out of their way for a customer. I know you’ll fit right in and be happy there too. Don’t worry if you only have a couple items to start with. That’s how everyone starts.
I’m always looking for reasonably priced purses, with lots of pockets and zippers and hidey-holes. Stain resistant would be a plus as would adjustable straps. I think the small zippered bag market is pretty saturated and only will sell if marked super cheap. It’s hard to break even with those. I recommend you find a niche bag and concentrate on those so you are known for something unique.

Hey Em! So excited that you will be opening your shop! You know I’m a huge fan of your work! I love your clutches but I would also like one that is about half the size – a mini clutch with a wristlet – to hold my phone, credit cards, and a lip gloss.

I like clutches, one pocket inside is good. Zipper closure is a must.
I know I’m not big on ruffles or frills though. Give me a beautiful fabric, and let it shine. 😀
That said, I know a sweet little niece who would love the heck out of a ruffle clutch, so count me in!
    Good luck!

Hi! How you have time to do any of this is amazing to me.

I would love to see a bag with a long strap to wear cross body, something that zips on top and maybe has a compartment or 2 inside.

    Your stuff is beautiful!

You are so talented! I can’t wait to see what your store is going to be like. I prefer plain colors so they go with any outfit, or muted patterns like light green on dark green. Of course, I also love the kid stuff. Ellie is a huge fan of pink, purple, and things that sparkle.

I love any purse – it is an addiction, and very sad for Mr. Phillips. Your work is beautiful and I am convinced you are super woman! Congratulations on your new store and happy birthday a little early.

I think you should make a small messenger bag, big enough to hold all my nursing stuff. Another idea would be a knitting bag with a couple interior pockets for notions

I’d really love a bag that looks like a purse, but is a camera bag. I’ve been wanting one for a while, but haven’t yet taken the plunge. Also, as a small purse person, I love your clutches.

I’d like to see frame purses and zippered bags! Mainly because I can’t do either!
    Great giveaway – Thanks!

I love bags that have outside and inside pockets and close with magnets or buttons. I often use my purses/bags for my knitting and zippers and velcro just don’t work well for that purpose.

I’d be likely to purchase small, zippered bags as gifts, and I’m always on the lookout for an iPad pouch made out of charming fabric.

Hooray for you for taking this big step.

I love all kinds of bags but messenger bags are cool or totes with zippers. Your tutu is cute. My 15 year old is running her first half marathon on Sunday. I’ll be there to cheer her on. Good luck with your shop.

I’ve never had a handmade bag, so I don’t know what I want. I want one though. It’d have to be biggish, but not too biggish. Goldilocks biggish. I need a pocket on the outside for my phone (an iphone) and a hook so I don’t have to go digging for my keys. I’d like a pocket in it big enough to hold 1 diaper- you know that “in case of emergency break glass diaper). I like something with straps. I second the magnetic closure!

I love fabric purses! It’s very hard for me to find a purse without leather. I love the clutch. It is so unique. My favorite bags that double as a purse are the classic ballerina totes. It is a bag that kinda look like a small duffle bag with two small straps and round on both ends. I’d love for someone to sew it with a few inner pockets for a phone (maybe one phone pocket on the outside in the space between the two straps), change, cards and a middle pocket with a zipper to hold small toiletries or makeup. I’d love to see fabrics in ballet slipper pink with black piping.
